The Institut d’Estudis Empordanesos publishes a compilation of essays on the work of Alexandre Deulofeu.
15.12.2003 (Figueres edition).
Historian and chemist Alexandre Deulofeu was one of the most important intellectuals in the pre-war Figueres. However, his personality has not been studied, and we are still missing a sound biography to analyse his life and work. Today, Friday 19th, while his centennial is reaching its conclusion without any public act so important as others made in other commemorations, a plaque will be uncovered on the façade of the pharmacy which carries his name. At the same time there will be the presentation of a compilation of essays about his work, published by the Institut d’Estudis Empordanesos (IEE). «Presumably, Deulofeu is an objectionable character, because Time has confirmed his theories», says Eduard Puig Vayreda, president of the IEE, and he adds that «notwithstanding his significance he has gone unnoticed». The same opinion is shared by historian Enric Pujol, who says that «there is still much study to be done about Deulofeu», and that any town with such an important character would have taken advantage of the commemoration to honour him properly. As a matter of fact, the book promoted by IEE is the only volume published during the centennial and contains several articles on Deulofeu, a bibliography and a chronology.
